Maths Charity Calculates Net Zero Plans with Greener Energy Futures

‘MEI (Mathematics in Education and Industry) is a charity based in Trowbridge that supports teachers in delivering advanced Mathematics, provides tuition to pupils and expert training and materials. A large part of MEI’s funding comes from central Government grants, consequently at the end of 2021 MEI found themselves needing to meet the Cabinet Office’s guidance that all organisation’s contracting for £5m+ with the Public Sector need to demonstrate a Net Zero plan. This required an urgent assessment in order to meet deadlines for the tender and so MEI contacted Greener Energy Futures to support in delivering expert advice on calculating their carbon footprint and identifying practical ways of reducing it. The report identified that over 94% of MEI’s carbon emissions came from travelling and homeworking and identified 9 projects that could save 9% of emissions directly, and a clear path to Net Zero.

“MEI is committed to excellence in all that we do. Our stakeholders, clients and staff are rightly concerned about tackling the Climate Crisis. By not only developing a Net Zero plan, but also reducing our emissions, we are able to demonstrate excellence. Greener Energy Futures were vital in helping us master a difficult and urgent task” said Vanessa Pittard, Chief Executive of MEI”

“Organisations need to have a plan for Net Zero, not just for compliance reasons but also because staff and other stakeholders want to see leadership on carbon. We were able to quickly turn around the report to help MEI and look forward to working with them again to help achieve carbon reductions” said Simon Pyne, Founder of Greener Energy Futures’
